What do we know about Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam?
Can Gio Biosphere Reserve is a population of terrestrial and aquatic fauna and flora species, formed in the vast delta of the estuaries of Dong Nai, Saigon and Vam Co Dong, Vam Co Tay. UNESCO has recognized Can Gio as a world biosphere reserve with a unique diversity of flora and fauna typical of the mangrove area. It is also recognized as a national key tourist area in Vietnam.
Before the war, Can Gio was a mangrove forest with rich natural populations. But in the war of bombs and toxic chemicals, this place had become a “dead land”. In 1978, Can Gio was merged to Ho Chi Minh City, and in 1979 Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee launched a campaign to replant Can Gio forest, establishing Duyen Hai Forest Enterprise (located in Can Gio, belonging to the Forestry Department) with the task of restoring the mangrove ecosystem. The forest area has been greened over 31 thousand hectares, of which nearly 20000 hectares are planted forests, more than 11000 hectares are zoned for natural regeneration and other forest types.

Can Gio mangrove forest have very special environmental conditions, an intermediate ecosystem between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, freshwater and saltwater ecosystems. Monkeys are species that have a habit of swarming, highly disciplined, cohesive spirits in a solid community. Monkeys in Can Gio are very active and agile, and you sometimes encounter scenes where they sit down, comb their hair, take care of each other very emotionally. Moreover, maternal love and fatherhood of monkeys are very deep. Walking along the road to Monkey Island, you can easily see the monkey piggybacking on a baby monkey, teaching them to spread the branches, feeding them, hugging them everywhere and so on.

Another highlight of the Can Gio biosphere reserve is the crocodile farm. The number of crocodiles preserved in the area is about 40 ones, when you go sightseeing, you will stand on a boat covered with B40 steel net which is very safe, the boat is always made of durable materials to guarantee the customer’s safety.
You will have the chance to witness up close this strong and danger prehistoric creature. In the water, the fierce crocodiles, 3 to 4 meters long lie dormant as if not interested in the static surrounding. But once toy raises the fishing rod with the bait, all the hungry crocodiles immediately come to surround the B40 steel boat.
